Silver Glove Series finale up next

Greenville, NC- East Carolina salvaged the final game of its series against Rice, as three Pirate pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout to win 2-0 on Sunday.

How it Happened: Ryland Urbanczyk held ECU to just four hits while working into the sixth and lowering his ERA to 2.75, but a leadoff home run in the second would prove to be all the runs the hosts would need to prevent Rice from its first series sweep in Greenville since 2007. The Owls threatened with the bases loaded, and less than two outs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but ECU turned a pair of hard-hit balls into double plays to hold the Owls off the board.

Next Up: Rice returns home for the final four games of the regular season. The Owls make the short trek to Schroeder Park to take on Houston in the final game of the 2026 Silver Glove Series at 6:35 on Tuesday and then host Tulane in the final American Conference series of the season, Thursday through Saturday.

Notes

Rice fell to 31-21 on the season, and 13-11 in the American.
The loss snapped the Owls' six-game overall winning streak, as well as a five-game conference winning streak.
Rice finished 7-5 on the road in the American this year after finishing 4-11 last year and 4-8 in 2024.
Rice pitchers held ECU's offense to a .212 average in the series after the Pirates came into Friday hitting .299.
Urbanczyk lowered his team-best ERA to 2.75.
