Rice Counseling & Sport Psychology
Rice Counseling & Sport Psychology (CSP) pursues the delivery of comprehensive, sustainable, student-athlete mental health, wellbeing, and performance programming and services. The use of evidenced-based practices are utilized with student-athletes. coaches, teams, and staff to pursue holistic growth in sport, academic settings, and life in general. Using an athlete-centric model, CSP collaborates with Athletic Trainers, Dieticians, Physicians, Rice Wellbeing Office, Rice Counseling Office, the SAFE Office, and additional providers as resources for student-athletes. The goal is to develop the total athlete and empower them to cultivate sustainable mental health and performance practices for their time as a Rice Athlete and beyond.
Dan Kratz, MA, LPC, CMPC
Assistant Athletic Director for Counseling and Sport Psychology
Dan Kratz (MA, LPC, CMPC) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas as well as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Dan has over three decades of experience in sports as a student-athlete, coach, sport psychology consultant, and mental health counselor with 11 years of work experience within different collegiate settings. Previously, he was a Mental Health Clinician with the Iowa State University Athletics Department. At ISU, Dan worked with student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine staff, and administration in multiple sports to provide counseling, consulting, programming, and creating policy regarding athletic-informed mental health and sport psychology.
