The Lead
Daelen Alexander rushed for a career-high 129 yards, but it was not enough, as UTSA scored on its first three possessions on its way to a 61-13 victory, Saturday night at the Alamodome.
The Story
After Rice won the toss and deferred, UTSA went 75 yards in just five plays, scoring on a Robert Henry one-yard run. On its opening possession, Rice drove to the UTSA 18-yard line before settling for an Enock Gota 36-yard field goal. The Roadrunners then scored on four of their next five possessions, as Rice went three-and-out on its next four possessions. Rice got into the end zone when, after Daelen Alexander's career-long 57-yard run got the Owls to the three-yard line, he finished off the drive with his third rushing touchdown of the season, as UTSA went into halftime with a 38-10 lead.
Rice got the ball to start the second half. However, the UTSA defense scored 16 straight points on an interception return and fumble return for touchdowns, and safety. They added a touchdown run in the third quarter before Chase Allen connected on a 45-yard field goal, his first of the season.
