Saturday's game moved up to 10 a.m.
Charlotte, NC: Charlotte stormed out to an early lead and exploded for seven runs after a rain delay on the way to a 13-0 win over Rice on Friday afternoon.
The Details: Due to the anticipation of strong storms in the Charlotte area later on Friday, game time was moved up to a noon first pitch. Charlotte's Cam Fisher slammed a two-out, three-run homer off Owls starter David Shaw in the bottom of the first to stake the 49ers to a quick 3-0 lead. Shaw held Charlotte off the scoreboard for the next two innings while the first band of predicted showers began to develop earlier than anticipated. Rice mounted its strongest challenge in the top of the fourth when Guy Garibay Jr. opened the inning with a single and one out later advanced to third on a single by Nathan Becker. Charlotte starter Hale Sims ended the threat with a strikeout and a ground out to preserve a 3-0 lead that then grew to 5-0 when a two-run homer by Jake Cunningham ended Shaw's day. Brandon Deskins struck out three in relief of Shaw to prevent any future in the fourth, but he did not return to the mound after a 46-minute rain delay. Charlotte added seven runs in the bottom of the fifth after the game resumed, blasting two more homers and a double.
