Rally for three in the ninth
Reckling Park: Jack Riedel keyed a ninth-inning rally with a two-run, pinch-hit homer, but Middle Tennessee struck back for a run in the 10th to defeat Rice 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The Details: With Rice trailing 4-1 and down to its last two outs, Riedel drilled an 0-1 pitch from Blue Raiders' reliever Zack Keenan off the Reckling Park scoreboard to drive in Justin Long and cut the lead to a single run. Connor Walsh followed with an infield single and advanced to second on a ground out before Austin Bulman singled up the middle to drive him home and tie the game. Nathan Becker followed with a single to left to put the winning run at second, but the Owls could not close it out. After MTSU scored a run in the top of the 10th, Manny Garza led off the bottom of the inning with his third hit of the day. Jack Ben-Shoshan , came in to run for Garza and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. But MTSU's James Sells recovered to get the final two outs to end the game.
