White team clinches Fall World Series
Houston- Caden Mitchell doubled home pinch runner Braden Sharp with one out in the bottom of ninth to give the White team a dramatic 3-2 victory and allow them to clinch Rice's Fall World Series.
Game Two was a carbon copy of the first game of the series on Monday, as the Navy squad took an early 1-0 lead, only to see the White team tie it in the sixth. But that was where the similarities ended, as Tuesday's game featured multiple runs scored by runners beating the ball to home plate, the last of which was the walk-off run by Sharp.
Landon West led off the second for the Navy with an infield single and later scored the only early run of the day on a ground out by Brandon Creek. Starting pitchers Ethan Sanders (Navy) and Zachary Fetchel (White) stymied the offense on both sides through the first five innings. Sanders allowed two hits and struck out five while Fetchel scattered four hits and a walk while fanning four, but was on the hook for the loss until the White offense again found its footing in the late innings.
Hiram Bocachica Jr. drew the White team even with a two-out solo home run in the sixth. One inning later, they took advantage of two errors to take the lead. Brady Ladusau reached on a two-base error with one out and then sprinted home on the second error of the inning.
Down their last three outs, the Navy scratched out a run to tie the game. Kutter-Gage Webb drew a leadoff walk and stole second. He remained at second with two outs before Parker Mitzel tied the game with a single.
But their celebration was short-lived.
Team co-captain Paul Smith led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and Ladusau foiled a potential double-play ball, beating the throw to first. Sharp was brought on to pinch run and was immediately in motion as Mitchell smacked the first pitch into the right field corner, and he sprinted home with the winning run.
The 2026 Fall World Series wraps up the Owls' fall practices Wednesday with the third and final game at 2:45 at Reckling Park.
