Solo home ignites three-run eighth
Houston- Colin Robson broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth with a solo home run, and Hiram Bocachica Jr. and Zachary Gingrich followed with RBI singles while Brayden Sharp and Ty Baker made that lead hold up as the White team took the opening game of the Fall World Series, 4-1 at Reckling Park on Monday.
The Navy team threatened early, loading the bases in the first, but Jeremiah Arnett held them scoreless until the third when Michael Zito hit his second double of the game to drive home JC Davis.
Navy starter Ryland Urbanczyk pitched five shutout innings but was relieved after a leadoff walk to Kahaku Harrison. Harrison moved up to second on a single by Robson and then to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a groundout by Masa Chilcutt.
Ethan Rivers worked three hitless innings in relief of Arnett before turning things over to Sharp and Baker.
Robson and Bocachica each had two hits for the victors, while Zito and Davis collected four of the five hits for the Navy squad.
Game Two of the series is set for 3:45 on Tuesday at Reckling Park.
