Alumni Involvement

Rice student-athletes develop unique, transferable skills throughout their undergraduate student-athlete experience. The experiences and skills obtained through participation in the academic and athletic experience at Rice create young employees who are marketable, valuable assets in today's work place. However, while at Rice, many of our student-athletes face similar questions in terms of where their lives are headed. In an effort to assist them in addressing these, and other questions, we have created the OWLS Career Network.

Former student-athletes, other Rice alumni, and supporters of the athletic department and the university can play a vital role in advising and mentoring our student-athletes by joining this network. They are some of the best resources we have in providing our students with career development information and advice, by focusing on information sharing, networking and other forms of career development through correspondence and personal connections with our student-athletes. You can play a part by:

  • Becoming a mentor - your experiences at Rice and beyond are invaluable resources to our current student-athletes. By advising student-athletes on your field of work, discussing your career path and providing insight on today's business climate, you will help give our student-athletes a competitive advantage as they begin their professional lives.
  • Join our LinkedIn Group
  • Being a speaker, networking or panel participant - we consider you our experts!
  • Taking a few moments to review and critique resumes and other correspondence.
  • To provide internships and jobs - we recognize that former student-athletes make the best employees. If you have job or internship opportunities, we would like you to think of Rice student-athletes first.

Please consider volunteering a small portion of your time to affect the life of a student-athlete and to give back to the institution that started you on the path to success. Please note that many of the opportunities for involvement can be remote - you don't need to live in Houston to participate!

We look forward to your assistance in building future leaders and difference makers!
