Terre Haute, Ind. - The Rice women's cross country team runs on Sunday, October 16 at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
Action takes place on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. Four of the women's top 30 and 29 regionally ranked women's teams compete for the title on Sunday. Rice is ranked third in the South Central Region just behind Arkansas and Texas. Running for the Owls will be Becky Wade, Allison Pye, Halsey Fowler, Farrah Madany, Heather Olson, Allie Schaich, and Lindsay Miller.
The women's 6,000 meter Blue Race starts at 10:40 a.m. (CT). The men's 8,000 meter Blue Race starts at 10 a.m. (CT) with the gates opening for spectators at 8 a.m. (CT).
Indiana State was selected to host the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships for the eighth straight year and the ninth time in the last 10 years. The host for the national championships also hosts the pre-national invitational each year. This year's NCAA Championship is slated for Monday, November 21 with the men's 10k starting at 11:08 (CT) and the women's 6k starting at 11:58 (CT).
Indiana State hosted the NCAA Championship for the first time in 2002 and was named the host from 2004 thru 2010. The championship was scheduled to be held at two other sites before returning to Indiana State in 2013 but was awarded to ISU for 2011 earlier this year. The University of Louisville has been designated as the site of the 2012 Championship.
