Owls Now Ranked No. 3 in South Central Region
Move Up Three Spots
Oct. 3, 2011
Houston - The Rice Owls women's cross country team has climbed up to the No. 3 ranking in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Regional poll (Oct. 3).
Head coach Jim Bevan's squad previously was ranked sixth in the last two weekly polls. Arkansas (1) and Texas (2) are the schools ahead of Rice. The Owls were able to leap frog over Baylor, SMU, and Texas A&M after their strong showing at the Notre Dame Invitational.
"Our ladies ran a great race at Notre Dame and we are gaining some momentum," commented Bevan. "Our ranking and results from the last week show we are going in the right direction. We need to keep training and paying the price in order to continue to develop. I am very proud of how hard and smart the team is training and racing."
Rice is back in action Oct. 7 when it fields a team for the HBU Invitational. It will also compete at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State on Oct. 16.
