Waco, Texas - The Rice Owls women's cross country team placed fifth out of 21 competing teams at the NCAA South Central Regional that was hosted by Baylor at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. Rice had 172 points with five runners in the top 50. SMU won the team title with 43 points as it had four runners in the top 10 (first, fourth, seventh, and eighth). Baylor was second with 54 points. SMU's Silje Fjortoft was first with a time of 20:29.7.

The top two teams from each of the nine NCAA regionals, along with 13 at-large teams, earn bids to the NCAA Championships. Individually, the top four runners not on a qualifying team can earn a bid as well.

Sophomore Halsey Fowler and freshman Johanna Ohm were Rice's top two runners. Fowler completed the 6k course in 21:38.1 and earned USTFCCCA All-South Central Regional team honors with a 21st place finish , while Ohm was 26th with a time of 21.57.3.
