NCAA South Central Regional Results

Waco, Texas - Senior Becky Wade placed second at the NCAA South Central Regional held Saturday at Cottonwood Golf Course.

Wade, from Dallas' Ursuline Academy, posted a 6K time of 20:25.6, just behind SMU's Silje Fjortoft's time of 19:59.1. She now makes her fourth trip to the NCAA Championship held in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 21. Rice's second runner was senior Allison Pye who placed 14th at 21:14.9. Both Wade and Pye earn All-South Central Regional accolades.

"Becky Wade was outstanding," commented Owl mentor Jim Bevan. "She ran the fastest 6k time ever run by a Rice athlete (20:25.6). The weather was windy with tough conditions, which makes Becky's performance even more amazing."

As a team, Rice placed fifth with a score of 129 points. Arkansas won the team title with 49 points and Texas was second (69 points).

Said Bevan, "We put together a better race today, coming within one point of Conference USA champs SMU and finishing fifth in a region that consists of all the schools in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. Farrah Madanay had her best race of her career as our third runner, running 21:52, which is a huge improvement over her previous races and Halsey Fowler continues to fight hard with a body that's still not quite 100 percent and she raced with a lot of heart as our fourth runner. Lindsay Miller, Heather Olson, and Allie Schiach all had their best 6K race and Linsday finished with a flurry, passing eight runners down the stretch! Overall, we ran the best race of the year for us at the last championship race and that's what you hope for.
