Rice's women's cross country team posted a fourth place finish at the 2012 Conference USA Championships, hosted by Southern Miss. Marie Thompson led the Owls with a 15th place finish.
The Owls have finished fourth or better in every C-USA Women's Cross Country Championship since entering the league in 2005.
"It was a very tough course," said Head Coach Jim Bevan. "Marie, Allie, Farrah, Laura and Lindsay all had their best race of the year. The hills really tore up the Wassef twins and they really weren't able to show their fitness."
"I went in thinking we would be between third and sixth today. Our ladies ran hard and many of them had lifetime bests," added Bevan
Thompson ran the 5 km course in 17:40.0, earning Third Team All-C-USA honors. Allie Schaich finished in 26th place with a time of 18:05.0. Farah Madanay ran 18:25 to come in 35th place, with Audrey Wassef (38th place) and Christina Wassef (42nd place) coming in at 18:28.8 and 18:37.2, respectively.
Lindsay Miller ran 19:02.8 to finish 51st, followed closely by Laura Michel in 54th (19:05.9) and Johanna Ohm in 55th (19:09.3). Keltie John ran a 19:23.9 and finished 60th.
