C-USA Championship Results
JACKSON, Miss. – The Rice Owls women’s cross country team placed third overall at Saturday’s Conference USA Championships, hosted by Southern Miss at the Choctaw Trails.
The Owls finished in the top three at the C-USA Championships for a fourth straight season. Charlotte won the league title with 64 points, followed by Southern Miss at 87 points for second place.
“Our ladies raced hard today,” head coach Jim Bevan said. “It was the closest we’ve been one to four and one to five all year. I knew ahead of time that four teams had an honest chance to win and Charlotte really put it together, their front runner is awesome. I’m really happy to have four freshmen running here, it will help prepare them for the intensities of conference meets for the future. Khayla and Elsa worked well together and Lourdes was close to being the top freshman runner. Anna Figueroa closed her conference career with her finest race and Sara Ivackovic really gutted out her finest performance as well.”
The Owls were led by sophomore Khayla Patel (8th-17:35) and senior Elsa Racasan (9th-17:37), each earning Second Team All-Conference honors. Freshman Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi placed 17th overall (17:56), garnering Third Team All-Conference honors in her first C-USA race.
The rest of the Owls finished in this order: freshman Sara Ivackovic (26th-18:16), Anna Figueroa (35th-18:32), freshman Ruby Watson (41st-18:44), freshman Maddie Forbes (45th-18:49) and junior Rachel Peterson (46th-18:51).
Next up for the Owls is the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be held Nov. 10 in College Station hosted by Texas A&M.
