Texas A&M Invitation Women's Results
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Competing in their second meet of the season, the Rice Owls women's cross country team finished fourth overall at Saturday's Texas A&M Invitational 6k race at the Watts XC Course.
The Owls were led once again by sophomore Khayla Patel, who placed fifth individually in a time of 21:05, while senior Elsa Racasan joined her in the top 10 with a ninth place finish of 21:20.
Other Owls to score points were freshman Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi (20th-21:51), freshman Ruby Watson (37th-22:29), junior Rachel Peterson (38th-22:30), junior Anna Figueroa (47th-22:38) and freshman Sara Ivackovic (70th-23:35).
"Today was a learning experience for a lot of our team," Rice head coach Jim Bevan said. "We competed well, moving up from ninth place at 2k to closing strong and finishing fourth. I'm proud of Khayla, her best race as an Owl and a personal best time. Elsa ran well with blisters on her feet and Lourdes passed 60 people from 2k to the finish. Rachel Peterson has really improved and I'm so proud of how far she's come. Ruby is doing well in our heat and she is fighting hard. Overall we will learn from this meet and move forward."
The Owls will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Lake Charles, La. to partake in the McNeese Cowboy Stampede.
