HOUSTON – Rice junior outside hitter Leah Mikesky was named Thursday to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Volleyball Third Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Announced as an AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention on Tuesday, Mikesky becomes Rice volleyball’s fifth CoSIDA Academic All-America recipient. Previous winners were Gwen Johnson (1986-first team; 1987-first team), Darcy Cruikshank (1995-second team; 1996-first team), Catherine DuPont (2002-third team; 2003-third team; 2004-first team), and Jessie Boulavsky (2009-first team).
A native of Schulenburg, Texas, Mikesky was named to the District 15 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team back on Nov. 5, making her eligible to earn the All-American honors. Mikesky is a Kinesiology major with a 4.11 GPA.
On the court Mikesky led the Owls in kills (466) and total attacks (1,344) and racked up 17 double-doubles en route to being named a First-Team All-C-USA selection.
