LEXINGTON, Ky. – Rice junior outside hitter Leah Mikesky was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Southwest Region Honorable Mention on Tuesday, marking the ninth consecutive season the Owls have had at least one student-athlete recognized by the organization.
Mikesky, who was a First-Team All-C-USA selection, started and played all 124 sets this season, ranking 29th in the nation in total attacks (1,344), 47th in total kills (466), 61st in points (508.5) and 87th in kills per set (3.76).
The Schulenburg, Texas native was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 and ranked second on team with 17 double-doubles. She ranked seventh amongst all C-USA players in both kills per set and points per set (4.10) and averaged 3.98 kills per set and 4.34 points per set in C-USA play.
Mikesky was named the Best Attacker at the Baylor Classic Tournament and chosen as the Rice Adidas Invitational MVP after leading the Owls to a win over No. 23 Colorado. She was selected to the District 15 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and had seven matches with 20 or more kills, including 21 kill in a win over No. 22 WKU (10/31).
