Complete All-Conference USA Teams
HOUSTON -- The seventh-seeded Rice volleyball team was well represented on the all-Conference USA teams as two Owls earned spots on the second team and two were named to the all freshman team, the league announced Wednesday.
Junior Jessica Holderness (Sycamore, Ill.) and sophomore Natalie Bogan (Oakland, Calif.) were selected for the all-conference second team by the league coaches. Holderness leads Rice in overall kills with 3.45 kpg and a total of 14 double-doubles. She is second on the team in digs with 3.64 overall and 4.00 against C-USA opponents. Bogan leads the Owls in kills in conference play with 3.49 kpg and in hitting percentage with a .314. She is also second on the team in blocks with 1.24 bpg to rank fourth in C-USA
Newcomers Caroline Gill (Fairhope, Ala.) and Tracey Lam (San Francisco, Calif.) earned spots on the all-freshman team. After averaging 1.81 bpg over the final five matches, Gill leads the league with 1.37 bpg in conference matches and was named the C-USA defensive player of the week on Sept. 24. Lam was a two-time C-USA defensive player of the week (Oct. 15 and Nov. 12) and led the Owls with 4.51 dpg overall and 5.23 dpg in league play to rank third. With 465 digs in 2007, Lam has the second best season on record for an Owl.
Rice begins play in the 2007 Conference USA Volleyball Championship on Thursday, taking on UTEP in the opening round at 11 am (CST) in Huntington, W.Va. The Owls swept the Miners in both regular-season meetings.
