The Rice Owls volleyball squad (14-13, 9-6) hosts Marshall (14-10, 5-7) on Friday at 5 p.m. as the men's basketball team hosts St. Thomas at 8 p.m. the same night inside Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls also host East Carolina (7-17, 4-8) on Saturday (Nov. 13) at 7 p.m. Both matches are inside Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Owls previously defeated Marshall 3-0 (Oct. 31) and East Carolina 3-1 (Oct. 29). Rice is 4-3 all-time in the series history vs. Marshall and East Carolina.

Head Coach Genny Volpe
Rice head volleyball coach Genny Volpe is in her seventh season directing the Owls' volleyball program. Volpe has an overall school and career record of 127-83. She has led the Owls to all three of their NCAA championship appearances (2004, 2008, and 2009).

Volpe came to Rice University after spending three years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Texas A&M. Prior to Texas A&M, Volpe was an assistant at SMU from 1996 to 2000. She spent the 1995 season as an assistant coach for the Owls under Henry Chen.

Schamun Sets It
Owl senior setter Meredith Schamun ranks first in school history with 5,009 assists and seventh all-time in C-USA. Schamun surpassed Katie Meyer's mark of 4,540 (1988-1991) with her 17th assist vs. UTEP in set two. She is averaging 10.35 assists per set for 2010.

Lam Diggin' It
Senior libéro Tracey Lam holds the Rice career record for digs with 2,284 and second all-time in C-USA (first is Jaci Gonzalez of Houston with 2,451 digs from 2002-05). Last season she set the single season dig record with 633 digs. Lam leads the team with 583 digs for a 5.77 dps, which is sixth-best in the nation. She has been named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions this season (Sept. 20, Oct. 4, and Oct. 18) and 12 times during her career.

 

 

McCord Leads in Kills
Junior outside hitter Ashleigh McCord leads with 283 kills for a 4.10 kills per set average ranks 29th in the nation. She has reached double-digit kills in 18 matches in 2010. McCord has tallied 996 kills in her career. She was named MVP of the Rice Invitational II by averaging 4.08 kps with a .377 hitting percentage.

Cole Second in Kills
Sophomore Nancy Cole leads Rice with 304 kills and is second with a 3.01 kills per set. Cole also sports a team-high .324 hitting percentage and leads the Owls with 95 blocks (18 BS, 77 BA).
