Rice-FIU/Florida Atlantic Match Notes

Weekend Storylines
  • The Owls make their final road trip of the regular season this weekend when they travel to Florida for a pair of C-USA matches. Rice is 5-4 away from Tudor Fieldhouse this season.
  • A win by Rice on Friday would clinch a spot in the C-USA Tournament.
  • Rice travels to Miami on Friday to face the FIU Panthers, a team that the Owls have faced only once before. The Owls defeated the Panthers, 3-1, last season in Miami. FIU is coming off a 3-1 loss to Florida Atlantic on Wednesday evening.
  • On Sunday the Owls will look to remain undefeated in the all-time series against Florida Atlantic. Rice owns a 3-0 mark against FAU, which includes a 3-1 victory in Boca Raton last season.
About Rice Volleyball
  • In the latest RPI rankings of the season the Owls come in at No. 80, behind only Western Kentucky (38) amongst all C-USA squads. Rice's win over Marquette earlier this season looks better each week with the Golden Eagles checking in at No. 27.
  • Through seven matches the Owls (8-2) currently sit in third place, two games back of first place UTSA.
  • The Owls already have 12 shutouts in 2014 with at least seven matches left to play. The 12 shutouts are the most by a Rice team since the Owls had 13 in 2009. Prior to their loss at UTSA, Rice reeled off four consecutive shutout victories for the first time since 2008.
  • Rice is two victories away from their 13th, 20-win season in school history and the fourth in the Genny Volpe era.
  •  Andi Bawcum and Katie Steel earned the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week on Monday, respectively. The two awards gives the Owls five C-USA Player of the Week awards this season.
  • Jillian Humphrey is one just five Owls to have over 1,000-plus career kills (1,072) and 400-plus career blocks (469), joining Tiffany Carrethers, Natalie Bogan, Tricia Bowen and Tessa Kuykendall. Humphrey is only 22 blocks away from joining Kuykendall as the only players in Rice history to have 1,000-plus kills and 500-plus blocks.
