News & Notes
*The Rice Owls volleyball team hits the road for a pair of C-USA matches this weekend, beginning first at North Texas (20-2, 7-1) on Friday, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest at Charlotte (17-7, 4-4). Rice is 10-4 all-time against North Texas while they’re undefeated (4-0) in the series versus Charlotte.

*The Owls enter play on Friday riding an eight-match win streak, tied for the fifth-longest in school history. A win on Friday would be the Owls longest win streak (9) since the 2001 season. Rice’s longest win streak was 12 straight in 1995.

*Rice has already established a single-season school record with eight five-set victories. The Owls are 8-1 overall when going the distance and have played and won four consecutive matches in five sets. Eight of the Owls last 12 matches have gone the full five sets.

*The Owls moved up in the VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major rankings from No. 22 to No. 21 this week. WKU (No. 5) and North Texas (T-15) also represent C-USA in the poll.

*Rice leads C-USA in digs per set (16.61), team assists (1,173), team digs (1,578), and

*For the second time in the last three weeks, Rice senior setter Madison McDaniel was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week while sophomore teammate Grace Morgan earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (10/23).

*McDaniel (3,068 assists) eclipsed 3,000 career assists last weekend and moved past former Owl great Megan Murphy (3,006 assists) for sixth place on the Rice all-time assists list.

*During C-USA play, Morgan has been spectacular for the Owls. The Crowley, La. is second in the league in hitting percentage (.458), totaling 136 kills on 251 attacks. She also leads all players with 58 total blocks and is second in blocks per set (1.45).

*Rice’s 27.0 team blocks performance against UTSA was the most by a team in a single match this season in all of NCAA Division I and ranked second in school history (29 done twice in 1983 and 1988). Morgan compiled 13.0 blocks in the process, tying Terri Loewenthal, Libra Taylor and Tessa Kuykendall for the second-most blocks in a single match by an Owl.
