The Rice Owls volleyball squad (10-8, 5-2) hosts UCF (11-7, 3-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. and UTEP (15-5, 5-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse.

Quick Look at Rice (10-8, 5-2)
The Owls won twice last week with two victories (3-1, 3-0) at Marshall. Rice is now tied for third in C-USA with Houston (12-5, 5-2) and with UTEP. UAB is first at 7-0 (17-2) and Tulsa (15-5, 6-1) follows in second place.

Three Owls are averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Junior middle blocker Nancy Cole leads the squad 200 kills and 2.86 kills per set, junior Laurie McNamara follows at 2.47 (173 kills), while freshman Lizzy Bache averages 2.44 kills per set. Jillian Humphrey is close at 1.90 kps (133 kills).

Humphrey (72) and Cole (67) lead Rice in blocking. Setter Megan Murphy is averaging 10.69 assists per set, while Megan White leads the Owl defense with at 4.36 digs per set.

Quick Look at UCF (11-7, 3-4)
Angelica Crump leads the Knights' offense with a 4.13 kps average with 256 kills. Evija Vilde and Kayla Keller follow at 3.16 and 3.15 respectively. Setter Rachel Vukson sports a 12.16 assist average. UCF has lost three in a row and four of its last five matches.



Quick Look at UTEP (15-5, 5-2)
The Miners are currently on a five-match winning streak heading into this weekend's C-USA action. Bridget Logan at 3.22 kps and 235 kills leads the Miner attack, while Xitlali Herrera follows at 3.08 and 228 kills and a team-high .345 hitting percentage.

The Series
The Owls are 7-2 all-time vs. UCF and 25-8 vs. UTEP. Rice won at UCF a year 3-1 and defeated UTEP 3-1 as well.

Rice Head Coach Genny Volpe
Rice head volleyball coach Genny Volpe is in her eighth season directing the Owls' volleyball program. Volpe has an overall school and career record of 139-94. She has led the Owls to all three of their NCAA championship appearances (2004, 2008, and 2009).

Defensive Player of the Week
Senior Megan White was named as Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 5) after averaging 5.91 digs per set. She had a career-high 35 digs in the 3-2 win over Georgia Tech.

In-season Tournaments
Rice is 5-6 during in-season tournament action. Rice posted a 0-2 mark at the Rice Invitational I and went 3-0 in the Rice Invitational II. The Owls were 0-3 at Hawai'i's Verizon Volleyball Challenge and went 2-1 at the SFA Invitational.

Team C-USA Stat Ranks
Rice ranks fourth in C-USA in assists (12.69), fifth in kills (13.27), sixth in blocks (2.16), and third in digs (16.30).

Junior Nancy Cole now has 706 kills to lead all active Owls... Megan White now has 912 career digs to lead all active Owls.

Jillian Humphrey was named to the Rice Invitational I all-tournament team. Nancy Cole was named MVP of Rice Invitational II, while Megan White and Megan Murphy were selected to the all-tournament squad. Laurie McNamara was selected to the all-tournament at Hawai'i. White and Murphy were also selected to the SFA Invitational All-Tournament Team.
