The Rice Owls volleyball squad (8-8, 3-2) plays two matches this weekend at Marshall in Huntington, W.Va. Both match times are set for 11 a.m. (CT).

Quick Look at Rice (8-8, 3-2)
The Owls had tied their season-high winning streak at three with a 3-1 win at SMU. Tulsa snapped the streak with a 3-0 sweep on Sunday. Five teams in Conference USA sport 3-2 records (UCF, Houston, UTEP, Rice, and Memphis) and trail UAB (5-0) and Tulsa (4-0).

Three Owls are averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Junior middle blocker Nancy Cole leads the squad 176 kills and 2.79 kills per set, junior Laurie McNamara follows at 2.51 (158 kills), while freshman Lizzy Bache averages 2.40 kills per set. Jillian Humphrey is close at 1.90 kps (120 kills).

Cole (62) and Humphrey (61) lead Rice in blocking. Setter Megan Murphy is averaging 10.75 assists per set, while Megan White leads the Owl defense with at 4.44 digs per set.

Quick Look at Marshall (3-12, 2-3)
Marshall snapped a five-match losing skein by defeating UCF 3-0 last Sunday. Sacha Byous-McConnell leads the Thundering Herd with a .293 hitting percentage, while Cameron Yoho has a team-high 2.90 kps.

Rice won the last meeting 3-0 to tie the series at 4-4

Rice Head Coach Genny Volpe
Rice head volleyball coach Genny Volpe is in her eighth season directing the Owls' volleyball program. Volpe has an overall school and career record of 137-94. She has led the Owls to all three of their NCAA championship appearances (2004, 2008, and 2009).



Defensive Player of the Week
Senior Megan White was named as Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 5) after averaging 5.91 digs per set. She had a career-high 35 digs in the 3-2 win over Georgia Tech.

In-season Tournaments
Rice is 5-6 during in-season tournament action. Rice posted a 0-2 mark at the Rice Invitational I and went 3-0 in the Rice Invitational II. The Owls were 0-3 at Hawai'i's Verizon Volleyball Challenge and went 2-1 at the SFA Invitational.

Team C-USA Stat Ranks
Rice ranks fourth in C-USA in assists (12.68), fourth in kills (13.25), sixth in blocks (2.13), and fourth in digs (16.29).

Junior Nancy Cole now has 685 kills to lead all active Owls... Megan White now has 814 career digs to lead all active Owls.

Jillian Humphrey was named to the Rice Invitational I all-tournament team. Nancy Cole was named MVP of Rice Invitational II, while Megan White and Megan Murphy were selected to the all-tournament squad. Laurie McNamara was selected to the all-tournament at Hawai'i. White and Murphy were also selected to the SFA Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Three Home Dates
Rice hosts UCF on Oct. 14 (7 p.m.) and UTEP on Sunday, Oct. 16 (2 p.m.). The Owls, then host Memphis on Oct. 21 (7 p.m.).
