McDaniel Selected C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Rice junior setter Madison McDaniel was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.

McDaniel, from the Woodlands, Texas, earned her sixth career C-USA weekly award (first defensive) by posting a team-best 30 digs this past weekend to go along with seven blocks. The junior standout also compiled 73 assists and now has a league-best 13 double-doubles.

Last Friday, McDaniel tallied 29 assists and 12 digs in a three set win at Middle Tennessee and followed up that performance with 44 assists and 18 digs in the Owls’ 3-1 win at Tennessee State. McDaniel currently ranks 10th in the nation in total assists with 713.

The Owls have won seven consecutive matches and will look to continue that streak this weekend when they travel to the state of Florida for a pair of matches against Florida Atlantic and FIU, respectively.
