IRVING, Texas – Rice sophomore middle blocker Grace Morgan was named the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week while fellow teammate Nicole Lennon earned C-USA Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Morgan, from Crowley, La., had a breakout weekend for the Owls by totaling 40 kills on 64 swings for a .562 hitting percentage, along with 47.5 points, in nine sets. Morgan set a career-high with 21 kills on 35 attacks (.571) in Friday’s match at UTEP, followed by a team-high 19 kills on 29 swings (.552) in a road victory at Louisiana Tech. In addition, Morgan led the Owls with 10.0 blocks. The C-USA honor is the second of Morgan’s career.
Lennon, a native of Katy, Texas, was tabbed C-USA Freshman of the Week for a second straight time and third time overall this season. She totaled 28 kills, 30 digs, and 30.5 points in nine sets. In the process, Lennon registered her team-leading seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season, including a 16-kills, 18-digs performance at UTEP. The freshman ranks second in C-USA with 242 total kills and is fourth in the league in kills per set (3.78).
The Owls (11-5, 1-1) return home this Friday, Sept. 29 to host Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m.
