About Rice Volleyball
Rice was picked to finish third in the C-USA by the league's coaches.
Sara Blasier was selected Preseason All-C-USA.
The Owls had three players named to the All-Marquette Invitational Team, which included Sara Blasier being named MVP. Leah Mikesky and Chelsey Harris were also selected to the team.
Rice has won six consecutive matches for the first time since the 2009-10 season. That season the Owls won nine straight matches from Oct. 30-Nov. 27.
The Owls are off to their best 11-match (8-3) start since the 2009-10 campaign. That season the Owls went 23-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Transfer Leah Mikesky has recorded eight consecutive double-doubles.
This weekend will mark the end of non-conference play for the Owls in 2014. With already eight wins in their pocket Rice has their best non-conference record since 2009-10. The Owls will begin Conference USA play on Sept. 26 at Southern Miss. Nine of the Owls first 11 C-USA matches will be away from Tudor Fieldhouse.
Daniela Arenas now ranks 23rd in the nation in active career total digs with 1,399. Arenas ranks third in Rice history in career digs and is just seven away from passing Yvette Kirk (1,405 digs) for second place all-time.
The Owls now rank in the nation's top 50 in digs per set (37th- 16.3), kills per set (43rd- 13.8), and assists per set (49th- 12.8).
     Weekend Storylines
Rice will carry a perfect 9-0 record into Friday morning's match against crosstown foe Texas Southern. The two teams have not met since the 2007 season.
The Owls will play their second "receiving votes" squad in the last week when they host Louisville Friday evening. The Cardinals, ranked 37th in the nation, received five Top-25 votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.
Rice closes the Rice Invitational II with a match against Stephen F. Austin, whom the Owls hold a 17-11 all-time mark against. The Owls have won 16 consecutive matches against Southland Conference teams.
