Volleyball Comes Back To Defeat HBU 3-1
HOUSTON- Rice hit .300 in order to down Houston Baptist 3-1 at Tudor Fieldhouse on Friday. The Owls received a career-high 21 kills from Laurie McNamara to down their cross-town opponent.
Rice has won all six matches it has played against Houston Baptist, including a 3-1 victory last season
HBU Head Coach Trent Herman was an assistant coach for Genny Volpe at Rice from 2005-09. Last season's Rice win was the first time Volpe faced one of her former assistants
Rice has won its last 13 matches against foes from the Southland Conference, dating back to 2008, and has won 20 straight sets against Southland opponents since 2010. The Owls defeated Southland opponents Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 6 and Lamar on Sept. 10
Missouri has won the only two matchups between the Tigers and Rice. Missouri took a 3-0 victory in Malibu, Calif. in the teams last meeting
NC State and Rice have split their only two meetings, with Rice taking the last matchup in five sets during the 2000 season.
Rice and NC State's baseball teams met in the 2013 NCAA Super Regionals, with NC State winning the series on two one-run wins
NC State and Missouri are two of the 28 schools nationally unbeaten entering this week. At least one of them will fall before facing Rice, as they face off at 1 p.m. on Friday.
