Tuesday Storylines

• Rice is 2-0 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, having won the most recent match last season (3-0) at Tudor Fieldhouse in the Rice Invitational I. The Owls limited the Islanders to just .062 hitting that match and were led in kills by both Lizzy Bache and Jillian Humphrey with 11 each.

• Rice has won its last 15 matches against foes from the Southland Conference, dating back to 2008, and has won 26 of their last 27 sets against Southland opponents since 2010. The Owls went 3-0 against SLC opponents last season.

Rice Sweeps Texas A&M Corpus Christi To Take Home Opener
HOUSTON- Rice's volleyball team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-0 at Tudor Fieldhouse, the first match of Rice Invitational I and the home opener for the Owls. The victory extended Rice's home winning streak to six matches, dating back to September 2012.


• Rice was picked to finish third in the C-USA by the league's coaches.

Sara Blasier was selected Preseason All-C-USA.

Jillian Humphrey was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week (9/8) after winning two of three at the NC State Tournament by leading the Owls with 12 blocks, two solo, including a match-high six in a big five-set win over UConn.

• The Owls 3-2 win over the UConn Huskies broke a streak of eight consecutive five-set losses, dating back to a 3-2 triumph over UTEP in El Paso back on Oct. 21, 2012.

• Setter Sara Blasier and defensive specialist Kimberly Vaio were each named to the Courtyard Midtown Classic All-Tournament Team. Blasier finished with 127 assists in the three matches (9.7 per set), 27 digs and 17 kills. Vaio recorded a team-best 42 digs (3.2 per set).

• Transfer Leah Mikesky has recorded four consecutive double-doubles.

Jillian Humphrey became just the sixth Owl in school history to register 400+ career blocks with her seven block performance against the Ragin' Cajuns on Aug. 30. 

Jillian Humphrey returns as an AVCA Southwest Honorable Mention. The Owls return six starters from 2013, plus the libero.

• Rice's schedule includes seven matches against RPI Top 100 teams from 2013 and seven matches against 20+ win teams in 2013. The Owls play 13 matches in the state of Texas this season.

• Sophomore RS Chelsey Harris played for the U.S. College National Team this summer at the European Global Challenge.
