IRVING, Texas – Rice middle blocker Grace Morgan earned the Owls’ second Conference USA weekly honor of the season on Tuesday when the league announced the Crowley, La. native was selected the C-USA Freshman of the Week.
Morgan continued her strong freshman campaign with 21 kills, 11 blocks and six digs for the Owls over the weekend. In addition, Morgan posted a .474 hitting percentage with 11 kills in a 3-2 win over Illinois State last Saturday and followed up that performance by hitting .667 (6-of-9) against SEC host (RV) Missouri.
Morgan is currently tied for ninth among C-USA leaders in blocks per set (1.00). She joins her freshman teammate Lee Ann Cunningham (Defensive Player of the Week, Aug. 29) as Owls to win a C-USA weekly honor.
The Owls will be back in action this weekend when they host the Rice Adidas Invite I involving Oakland, Sam Houston State and USC.
