Volleyball Heads To Baylor For Tuesday Match

Tuesday Storylines
•The Owls are off to a 2-1 start for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. Rice will be aiming for their first 3-1 start since the 2009-10 season. 
• Rice holds a 23-17 all-time record  against Baylor but have dropped the last four meetings. The Owls last beat the Bears (3-1) at the Mean Green Volleyball Classic in Denton in 1998. The two teams met last season in Waco on Sept. 18 and after winning the opening set (25-18) the Owls dropped the next three (21-25, 21-25, 14-25). 
• The Owls play their first mid-week non-conference game of the 2014 season, one of just two on the 2014 slate. Rice also plays the following Tuesday when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Volleyball Falls in Four to Baylor
Rice University volleyball took the first set from visiting Baylor before the Bears rallied for a 3-1 win - 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 - on Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. Jillian Humphrey tallied 14 kills and Noelle Whitlock added 11 in the setback.

About Rice Volleyball
• Rice was picked to finish third in the C-USA by the league's coaches.
Leah Mikesky and Sara Blasier were each named to the Adidas Rice Invitational I All-Tournament Team. Mikesky finished third in kills (40) in the tourney while Blasier's 114 assists ranked second.
Jillian Humphrey became just the sixth Owl in school history to register 400+ career blocks with her seven block performance against the Ragin' Cajuns on Aug. 30. Humphrey, 409 career blocks, is also just two block assists shy of moving past Nancy Cole (331 BA) for fifth place on the Owls all-time list.
• The Owls lone loss over the weekend was a five-set setback to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Rice went 0-5 last season in five-set matches and have lost their last seven five-setters overall, dating back towards the end of the 2012-13 season.
Sara Blasier was selected Preseason All-C-USA.
Jillian Humphrey returns as a AVCA Southwest Honorable Mention. The Owls return six starters from 2013, plus the libero.
• Rice's schedule includes seven matches against RPI Top 100 teams from 2013 and seven matches against 20+ win teams in 2013. The Owls play 13 matches in the state of Texas this season.
• Sophomore RS Chelsey Harris played for the U.S. College National Team this summer at the European Global Challenge.
