IRVING, Texas - Rice freshman libero Lee Ann Cunningham was rewarded for a sensational opening weekend of volleyball by being named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Cunningham impressed in her collegiate debut by totaling a team-high 54 digs (4.5 digs per set) over three matches this past weekend at the BYU Invitational. The native of Louisville, Ky. shined brightest on Saturday, when she totaled a match-high 28 digs in a five-set thriller at No. 13 BYU.
Cunningham's 54 digs are second among C-USA leaders entering Monday.
The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Houston Baptist in the home opener from Tudor Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
