HOUSTON- In anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac's arrival to the gulf coast region, LSU and Rice have announced that the Tiger Invitational, scheduled to take place in Baton Rouge, La. From August 31-September 1, has moved to Rice University's Fox Gym. The tournament features Rice, LSU, No. 7 Purdue and No. 12 Washington.
"Rice is happy to work with the LSU administration and accommodate the Tiger Invitational," said Senior Associate Athletic Director and Volleyball Sport Administrator Stacy Mosely. "Our staff is committed to making this experience a positive one and we look forward to providing great volleyball for our fans."
"Moving to the Tiger Classic to Houston is a precautionary measure," Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator Miriam Segar said. "We are grateful to Rice University and appreciative of their administration for the support and understanding during this situation."
Fox Gym is located in the Youngkin Center, adjacent to Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice last played in Fox Gym in 2008, with its last game in Fox Gym a 3-1 victory over TCU.
Purdue, coming into the week ranked 7th in the nation, is the second top 10 team to visit Rice in as many seasons, after the Owls hosted No. 6 Stanford in front of 1,176 fans last season.
The tournament field plus the six-match schedule will remain the same. Limited seating and standing room is available for $5.00 cash at the door. Fans should enter the double doors in the Youngkin Center, and turn right to Fox Gym.
