LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Rice volleyball team received the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Monday, marking the sixth consecutive season the Owls have accomplished the feat.

The Owls finished the 2013-14 academic school year with a 3.436 GPA and senior Tyler Jenkins was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Rice has now received the award every year since the 2008-09 school year. The Owls open the 2014 season on Aug. 29 when they host UC Davis as part of the Rice Invitational.
