HOUSTON – Former Rice volleyball great Daniela Arenas has joined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Genny Volpe announced on Friday.
A 2014 Rice graduate, Arenas finished her career ranked second in school history in 1,756 digs, digs per set (3.80) and career sets played (462).
“We are excited to add Daniela to the staff this season,” Volpe said. “She is a great competitor and role model for the team. She knows our system well, having been such a big part of our team for years. She will be able to work really well with our liberos and add a lot to our program.”
In her senior season Arenas ranked third in Conference USA in total digs (519) and was fourth in digs per set (4.33). Those 519 digs ranked as the fifth-most in a single-season in school history.
After graduating from Rice, Arenas spent time working in Dallas before returning to Houston in January to work full time for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Rice.
“I have a heart for the athletes here and was super excited when Genny asked me to help the team,” Arenas said. “I’m looking forward to helping the girls and being there for them.”
