LEXINGTON, Ky.
– For a seventh consecutive season the Owls volleyball squad received the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organization announced on Wednesday.

Rice ended the 2014-15 academic school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.55 and sophomore Leah Mikesky (4.13 GPA) was named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Owls have received the AVCA Team Academic Award every year since the 2008-09 academic campaign. Rice opens the 2015 season on Aug. 28 when they travel to Austin to play the Texas Longhorns.
