HOUSTON – Rice head volleyball coach Genny Volpe has been selected to be an assistant coach on the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, according to USA Volleyball.
Volpe, the all-time winningest coach in Rice history (221-150), will be entering her 13th season as the head coach of the Owls in 2016. Under Volpe’s guidance, the Owls have recorded five 20-plus win seasons, including back-to-back in 2014 and 2015. Last year the Owls notched two top-25 victories in a single season for the first time in school history.
“I’m extremely excited to be a part of this endeavor with the Women’s Junior National Team,” Volpe said. “I’m looking forward to working with some great coaches and athletes and representing USA volleyball.”
Volpe will join a staff led by Texas A&M’s Laurie Corbelli, who was named head coach in late May. In addition, TCU assistant coach Brian Wright will serve as an assistant coach while University of Denver assistant coach Jesse Tupac will serve as a technical coordinator.
The 19-player U.S. Women’s Junior National Training Team will train July 11 through July 24 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The final 12-player roster for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team will be announced on July 19.
