McCord on Silver Medal Winning Team

Rice volleyball player Ashleigh McCord, from Wylie, Texas, was a contributing member of the U.S. Women's National A2 Red Team that captured the silver medal at the USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships held in Minneapolis, May 23-26. The National A2 Red Team lost to the University of Washington, playing under its club name of Huskies VBC, in the gold medal match played Tuesday. Set scores were 25-22, 26-24, and 25-21.
An outside hitter, McCord gained valuable experience as she heads into her sophomore campaign at Rice.
"It was a great experience," commented McCord. "I was able to compete against the nation's top players and learn from great coaches. I enjoyed the intense competition between all of the girls."
McCord, as a freshman outside hitter in 2008, was named to the All-Conference USA Freshman team. She owned a C-USA freshman best in hitting accuracy (.302) and kills (3.10) per set.
