AUSTIN - The Rice Owls volleyball team closed out their spring season in style be defeating the Texas Longhorns 3-1 (18-25, 28-26, 26-24, 25-23) Friday evening at Gregory Gym.
Rice junior right side hitter Chelsey Harris led all players with 17 kills while Leah Mikesky chipped in 13 kills and Portia Okafor added 12 kills. Setter Madison McDaniel picked up where she left off in the fall with a double-double of 40 assists and a match-high 16 digs.
The Rice defense limited the Longhorns, who advanced to last year's NCAA Championships, to just a .211 hitting percentage. Mikesky also notched a double-double with 11 digs while Shelby Livingstone and Maddi Holman each posted 13 digs.
The Owls closed out the spring schedule on fire, winning their final eight matches.
