HOUSTON, Texas - Coming off a 3-0 win over Blinn College in their spring opener on Wednesday, the Rice Owls volleyball now sets their eyes on the Rice Spring Tournament set for this Saturday, March 29.
The Owls will face Texas A&M (11 a.m.), TCU (12 p.m.) and Stephen F. Austin (2:30 p.m.). Sam Houston State will also be participating but will not play Rice. All three of the Owls matches will be played at Tudor Fieldhouse and will consist of two sets played to 25 only. Admission is free to all games.
Rice swept the Buccaneers on Tuesday, 25-22, 25-19 and 26-24. As a team that Owls hit .290.
"It was great to see our team compete against someone, finally," Rice head coach Genny Volpe said. "They have been working hard on developing their individual games this spring, so the team concepts have taken a back seat for a few weeks. Having said that I believe we are seeing improvements in individual players, but need work on communication and team cohesion. That will get better as we continue to practice and compete. This weekend I'm looking forward to seeing us continue to improve our team game. We will be focusing on team passing and defense, most specifically. Also, we need to continue to push the envelope on serving and try to get our opponents out of system more often. We are looking forward to hosting some great teams this weekend, and hope our fans come out for some great volleyball."
Saturday's first match will see the Owls take on the Aggies at 11 a.m.
