HOUSTON, Texas – Rice head volleyball coach Genny Volpe announced the addition of Florida State transfer, Leah Mikesky to the Owls roster on Monday.

Mikesky, a redshirt freshman from Schulenburg, Texas, played in 18 games (four starts) in 2013. The 6-1 outside hitter, who played club for TEXSTAR, totaled 71 kills (1.5 per set) on 212 attacks and had eight service aces. Mikesky was also sixth on the team in digs with 77.

“We are very excited to have Leah join our team,” Volpe said. “She is someone we know well, as we recruited her out of high school. She will be adding a lot of experience to the outside hitting position along with strong work ethic and competitive drive. Rice is a great fit for her academically as well as she is a very strong student. We are pleased to announce her immediate addition to the team this spring.”

Mikesky was ranked No. 39 on the PrepVolleyball.com senior class ratings coming out of high school. She was named to the Under Armour Girls High School All-America Second Team and was a four-time all-state volleyball selection at Schulenburg High School.
