Houston - UCF's Angelica Crump and Evija Vilde pounded 24 and 22 kills respectively to lead the Knights to a 3-1 Conference USA volleyball victory over the Rice Owls in Tudor Fieldhouse.
Set scores were 25-14, 24-26, 25-17, and 25-21. With the win the Knights are now 12-7 overall and 4-4 in C-USA action, while the Owls are now 10-9 on the season and 5-3 in league play.
"We have to give a lot of credit to Central Florida, because they had been struggling of late, but came in here with a clear mission to basically put it all out there on the floor. (Angelica) Crump and (Evija) Vilde just killed us and they did a really good job of executing and they rattled our team," stated Rice head coach Genny Volpe. "Our team has shown nothing but composure in the last two-and-a-half weeks and it was very uncharacteristic of our team in the way it responded tonight."
Also in double-digits for UCF in kills was Delaina Sarden with 14. As a team, UCF hit for 69 kills (.333) to Rice's 50 (.217). Furthermore, UCF's setter Rachel Vukson, who had 13 digs, assisted on 60 of UCF's kills.
"They had 69 kills to our 50, and that says it all right," said Volpe. "That just destroyed us in terms of offense, they had way more offense than we did tonight."
