HUNTINGTON, W. Va.-Marshall downed Rice 3-0 on Friday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center. Nancy Cole posted her sixth straight match with 10+ kills.

The Owls (13-9, 6-2 C-USA) are in third place in the C-USA standings after falling to Marshall (16-5, 6-1 C-USA).

"Losing like this definitely hurts," said Head Coach Genny Volpe. "Marshall played great. They had an answer for everything and we threw at them and deserve this important win. We will learn from it and move forward."

Cole hit .286 (11K-5E-21TA) to lead the team with 11 kills. She added a solo block and a block assist to contribute 12.5 points for the match.

Megan Murphy had 30 assists and eight digs, marking her 10th straight match with 30+ assists.

Daniela Arenas had 12 digs, giving her double digit digs in nine of her last 11 matches. Mariah Riddlesprigger posted 10 digs, reaching double digits for the fifth time in the past six matches.

Kimberly Vaio also reached double digits with 11 digs, her fourth match in C-USA play with double digit kills. Noelle Whitlock posted 11 digs, her fifth match with 10+ digs since C-USA play began.

Reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Jillian Humphrey had seven kills and a block.

The Owls fell in the first set 25-20, despite 10 digs from Riddlesprigger.

Marshall hit .464 took the second set 25-18. Marshall completed the match with a 25-22 third set victory.

The Owls return home to Tudor Fieldhouse to play East Carolina on October 14 at 1 p.m., as part of Centennial Weekend.
