Huntington, W.Va. - The Rice Owls volleyball team took care of business on Sunday with a 3-0 sweep over Marshall at the Cam Henderson Center.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, and 25-20 in match that only lasted one hour and 21 minutes. The Owls (10-8, 5-2) also defeated Marshall (3-14, 2-5) on Saturday 3-1.
"I am very proud the team's focus and ability to improve from Saturday's match," said Genny Volpe, Rice's head volleyball coach. "It was another great performance from Megan Murphy and Nancy Cole was extremely productive."
Murphy, with a match-high 29 assists, directed an Owl offense that totaled 38 kills with a .314 hitting percentage. Cole was efficient with 10 kills and 1 error in 15 attacks for a .600 hitting percentage.
Also, Owl freshman Lizzy Bache and sophomore Mariah Riddlesprigger tallied 9 kills each. Riddlesprigger also had a team-high 13 digs for a double-double.
After the first two sets, Rice had 30 kills and only 2 errors in 60 attacks for a .467 hitting percentage.
The Thunderding Herd was led by Abby Tomas' 12 kills, while Cameron Yoho added 9 kills. Marshall hit for 35 kills, but only registered an anemic .083 hitting percentage.
Next weekend, Rice hosts UCF on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and UTEP on Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. in Tudor Fieldhouse.
