BEAUMONT, Texas- Rice picked up a 3-0 victory over the Lamar Cardinals Tuesday night in Beaumount.
The Owls (2-5) have now won 13 straight matches against the Southland Conference dating back to 2008. Rice has also won 20 straight sets against Southland foes, picking up three consecutive set wins over Lamar (1-8).
Noelle Whitlock led the squad in digs with 15, the fourth time this season she has had double digit digs. Daniela Arenas reached double figures with 12 digs. Lindsay Daniel set career-highs with five digs and two service aces.
The Owls came out strong in the first set, holding the Cardinals to -.033 hitting in a 25-14 set. Jillian Humphrey had five kills on .833 hitting in the first set.
Rice took the second set 25-18 bolstered by four Chelsey Harris kills.
Lamar gave the Owls a scare in the third set, leading 14-12 before the Owls went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good, winning the third set 25-17.
The Owls return to action on at 11 a.m. as they take on cross-town opponent Houston Baptist for the first game of the Rice Invitational II.
