Honolulu - No. 12 Hawai'i posted a .417 hitting percentage with 49 kills and only 9 errors to sweep the Rice Owls 3-0 in Hawai'i's Verizon Volleyball Challenge in front of 5,313 fans at the Stan Sherriff Center. Set scores were 25-10, 25-18, and 25-19. The Owls are now 3-3 on the season, while the Rainbow Wahine improve to 6-1.
The Owls hit .173 with 27 kills and were led by Jordan Meredith, Jillian Humphrey, and Lizzy Bache who each had 5 kills. Setter Megan Murphy registered 4 kills and 21 assists as well. The Owls did not fare well in set one when they hit -.061, but did rebound to hit .304 (10-3-23) in set two and .360 in set three (11-2-25)
The Rainbow Wahine were led by Jane Croson's 16 kills and .727 hitting percentage (16-0-22) and 4 service aces, while Kanani Danielson was credited with 10 kills. Mita Uiato had 31 assists and 12 digs for the match's only double-double.
The Owls now play Cincinnati on Friday at 10 p.m. (CT). Cincinnati won the first match of the tournament 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, and 25-22) over Pacific.
