OXFORD, Miss.- Rice's volleyball team made quick work of Alabama A&M, defeating the Bulldogs in three sets on Saturday morning. Rice hit .341 in the match.
"We rebounded well today after a tough loss last night," said Rice Head Coach Genny Volpe. "Kyley Reed had a great match and Megan Murphy caused a lot of problems for Alabama A&M."
"We are excited to get back home and play in Tudor Fieldhouse for our final preseason tournament," added Volpe.
The Owls were led by nine kills by Laurie McNamara.
Megan Murphy registered a season-high eight kills on .889 hitting (8K-0E-9TA). The redshirt junior from Duncan College also collected 31 assists, three digs and three blocks.
Kyley Reed picked up a career-high seven kills on .400 hitting. Andi Bawcum also posted a career-high five kills on .400 hitting.
The Owls (5-6) held Alabama A&M (0-11) to .138 hitting on the match.
Mariah Riddlesprigger collected a team-high 10 digs and six kills.
The Owls won the first set by a score of 25-16. Rice hit .367 to beat the Bulldogs 25-13 in the second set. Rice beat Alabama A&M 25-23 in the third set.
Rice returns home to host the Rice Invitational II on Sept. 14-15.
