BOULDER, Colo. – The Rice Owls volleyball team concluded a seven-match, season-opening road trip that spanned 10 days with a 3-0 loss (15-25, 20-25, 20-25) to the Colorado Buffs Saturday evening at the Coors Events Center.
Rice (4-3) went 2-1 at the Omni Invitational tournament and will return to Houston next weekend when they host the Rice Adidas Invitational I beginning on Friday, Sept. 8 at Tudor Fieldhouse.
“Overall we just were too up and down on the little things today,” Rice head coach Genny Volpe said. “We had moments of greatness and inspirational play, but we just need to be more consistent in the fundamentals. We have a great group of young women that are invested and I’m excited for what’s next. We are looking forward to getting home and helping in any way that we can for those affected by the hurricane. Also, we’re really looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd next Friday.”
Rice was led offensively by freshman outside hitter Nicole Lennon, who recorded a match-high 15 kills (.294), along with seven digs. Senior setter Madison McDaniel notched her second double-double of the season with 31 assists and 10 digs while sophomore Lee Ann Cunningham led all players with 16 digs.
