FRESNO, Calif.- Rice played a five-set match for the second straight day, but the Owls fell 3-2 to Cal State Northridge in their second match of the Bulldog Invitational.
The Owls (0-2) fell to Cal State Northridge (2-0) for the second straight season, and could not top the No. 78 RPI team from 2012.
Jillian Humphrey led the Owls with 18 kills, notching double digits for the second straight match. Humphrey hit .483 on the afternoon. She had five blocks, and one solo block, moving her into a tie for eighth all-time at Rice.
Megan Murphy had 49 assists with 7 kills and 7 digs.
Mariah Riddlesprigger, playing in front of her hometown fans this weekend, co-led the team with 14 digs. The Fresno native picked up 8 kills as well.
Cal State Northridge took the first set 25-23, but the Owls came back and won the second set 25-19.
Rice broke two set points, and then won the next two points to take a 26-24 victory in the third set.
The Matadors came back and took the fourth set 25-16, and the tiebreaker set 15-13.
Rice faces Santa Clara in the final game of the Bulldog Invitational at 7 p.m. CT.
