HOUSTON- Rice's volleyball team fell 3-0 to LSU in the first game of the Tiger Classic at Fox Gym on Rice's Campus. Nancy Cole led the Owls with 7 kills.
This was the first game of the Tiger Classic, originally scheduled for Baton Rouge, La. The tournament was moved to Rice as a precautionary measure.
Rice falls to 2-3 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 2-2.
Cole's seven kills brings her career total to 939, and she needs 61 more kills to reach 1,000.
Megan Murphy contributed 24 assists and four kills for the match.
Libero Daniela Arenas led the team with 11 digs, her fourth match in five games this season with double digit digs.
The Owls dropped the first set 25-16. Mariah Riddlesprigger contributed three kills, an assist and a dig in the first set.
Rice had the second set tied at 13 before LSU pulled away to win 25-15. Laurie McNamara chipped in three of her five total kills during the set.
Rice had its best chance to win a set in the third, a set that was tied 14 times and featured four lead changes, before falling 25-21. Jillian Humphrey contributed four kills in the set off a .800 hitting percentage. Arenas picked up six digs in the set.
The Owls return to the court at 5 p.m. to take on No. 7 Purdue at Fox Gym. Tickets are $5.00 cash at the door.
