Brock's responsibilities included equipment, recruiting, travel coordination and camp coordination. On the court, Brock works primarily with the middle hitters and is responsible for blocking schemes.
Under Brock, the Owls have ranked third in C-USA in blocks during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, and he has coached four middle blockers to a total of eight All-C-USA Teams, including three-time All-America selection Nancy Cole and two-time All-American Natalie Bogan.

In addition, he has coached four C-USA All-Freshman team selections, including Caroline Gill (2007) and Jillian Humphrey (2011), who posted the two highest single-season block totals for a freshman in Rice history.
During the 2009 season, the Owls captured their first-ever conference championship when they defeated Tulsa 3-2 in the title game to earn Conference USA's NCAA automatic bid. Rice also sported a final RPI ranking of 37, its highest ever, out of 330 institutions, to lead C-USA.
Prior to coming to Rice full-time, Brock, a native of the Texas Gulf Coast, spent 11 years at Baytown Christian Academy, where he served as the athletics director, operations manager, and coach of multiple sports, in addition to teaching duties. He helped guide the volleyball team to four Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state titles. Brock also served stints as the boys' soccer and boys' basketball coach.
A four-year letterman at Southern California, Brock ended his collegiate career as the Trojans' all-time dig leader with 956, a record he held for 10 years. He also set an NCAA record by posting double-figure digs in 45 matches during his career. He graduated from USC in 1996 with a B.S. in exercise science.
Since his collegiate career ended, Brock remains an active participant on the national volleyball scene, both indoors and outdoors. He plays at the indoor open division nationals every year and holds an outdoor open rating.
Brock was born and raised in Baytown, Texas, and is a 1991 graduate of Lee High School. Russell and his wife, Kristi, have two daughters, Brooklynn (13) and Kaelynn (11), and a son, Kory (8).
